John Rhys-Davies is a Welsh actor born on 5 May 1944. He gained recognition for his roles as Sallah in the Indiana Jones franchise and Gimli in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Rhys-Davies has been nominated for three Screen Actors Guild Awards, winning one, and received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. His notable film credits include Victor/Victoria (1982), The Living Daylights (1987), The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004), and Aquaman (2018). He is also known for his extensive voice work in projects such as Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996), The Jungle Book 2 (2003), Gargoyles (1995–1996), and SpongeBob SquarePants (2000–2002). Rhys-Davies has also had memorable television roles in I, Claudius (1976), Shōgun (1980), The Untouchables (1993), and as Professor Maximillian Arturo in Sliders (1995–1997).
