John Roberts
John Glover Roberts Jr. (born January 27, 1955) is an American lawyer and jurist. He currently serves as the 17th Chief Justice of the United States, a position he has held since 2005. Known for his moderate conservative judicial philosophy, Roberts is primarily an institutionalist. He has demonstrated a willingness to collaborate with the Supreme Court's liberal bloc, earning a reputation as a swing vote. Raised in Northwest Indiana, Roberts received his education in Catholic schools. He pursued history at Harvard University before attending Harvard Law School, where he served as the managing editor of the Harvard Law Review. Roberts clerked for Circuit Judge Henry Friendly and Justice William Rehnquist before joining the Reagan Administration's attorney general's office. He later held positions in the Department of Justice and the Office of the White House Counsel during the Reagan and George H. W. Bush Administrations.
