John Standing, born John Ronald Leon, is an English actor known for his extensive career in film and television. Born on August 16, 1934, in London, Standing is the son of actress Kay Hammond and Sir Ronald George Leon, a stockbroker and descendant of Sir Herbert Leon. He succeeded his father as the 4th baronet in 1964 but does not use the title. Standing received his education at Eton College and Millfield School, before serving as a second lieutenant in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He then studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London. Standing's notable credits include roles in Peter Brook's production of Titus Andronicus, as well as Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest.
