Johnny Silver Biography
Johnny Silver (born John Silverman; April 16, 1918 – February 1, 2003) was an American actor and singer. He is best known for his portrayal of Benny Southstreet in the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls, a role which he also reprised in the 1955 film adaptation. Silver began his performing arts career singing as a youth and later transitioned to acting. He gained experience performing with actor John Raitt at L.A. City College and also worked as a burlesque comic. During World War II, Silver was involved in entertainment for the troops. In New York, he found success in his role in Guys and Dolls and continued to work in the industry for over 40 years.
