Jonathan Michael Batiste was born on November 11, 1986, in the United States. He is a versatile American musician, singer, songwriter, composer, bandleader, and television personality. Throughout his career, Batiste has collaborated with renowned artists across various music genres, including Stevie Wonder, Prince, Willie Nelson, Lenny Kravitz, Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey, Roy Hargrove, and Mavis Staples. He has also released his own recordings and performed in over 40 countries. From 2015 to 2022, Batiste showcased his talents as the bandleader and musical director on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, along with his band Stay Human. He holds the positions of music director at The Atlantic and Creative Director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. Batiste achieved critical acclaim for his co-composition of the score for the Pixar animated film Soul, which earned him an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Grammy Award, and a BAFTA Film Award (which he shared with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross). Throughout his illustrious career, Batiste has been nominated for 14 Grammy Awards, winning 5, including an Album of the Year accolade for his remarkable work.
