Jonathan Richard Partington (born 4 February 1955) is an English mathematician and Emeritus Professor of pure mathematics at the University of Leeds. He completed his PhD in mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge, focusing on numerical ranges and the Geometry of Banach Spaces. Professor Partington is known for his work in functional analysis, with applications in control theory, and has authored several books in this field. He served as editor-in-chief of the Journal of the London Mathematical Society. In addition to his mathematical contributions, Partington is also recognized for his invention of the annual March March march and his involvement in British text-based computer games including Acheton, Hamil, Murdac, Avon, Fyleet, Crobe, Sangraal, and SpySnatcher.
