Bell was born in Bloomington, Indiana to Shirley Bell, a therapist, and Alan P. Bell, a psychologist and former Kinsey researcher. With a father of Scottish descent and a Jewish mother, Bell came from a diverse background. He began playing the violin at the age of four, and his parents quickly recognized his passion and talent. Bell had a normal Indiana childhood, enjoying sports and excelling in tennis and bowling. Today, he is renowned worldwide for his remarkable contributions to classical music.
