Joyce Carol Oates (born June 16, 1938) is an American writer known for her extensive body of work, which includes 58 novels, plays, novellas, volumes of short stories, poetry, and non-fiction. Notable works such as Black Water (1992), What I Lived For (1994), Blonde (2000), The Wheel of Love (1970), and Lovely, Dark, Deep: Stories (2014) have garnered critical acclaim and were finalists for the Pulitzer Prize. Oates has received numerous awards throughout her career, including the National Book Award for her novel them (1969), two O. Henry Awards, and the National Humanities Medal. She has also served as a professor at Princeton University and is currently a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley.
