Juan Carlos Flores
Juan Carlos Flores (1962–2016) was a Cuban poet known for his contributions to the experimental poetry and performance activities in Havana. Born in Havana in 1962, Flores later moved to Alamar, where he lived as an outsider, without a university degree or traditional job. He published several books in Cuba, including the award-winning Los Pájaros Escritos. In 2012, Flores traveled outside of Cuba for the first time to speak at Brown University about his book, El contragolpe. Sadly, he committed suicide in September 2016. Despite his tragic end, Flores remains recognized for his significant role in the literary and artistic culture of Havana.
