    Julian Bond Biography
    Horace Julian Bond (January 14, 1940 – August 15, 2015) was an American social activist, civil rights leader, politician, professor, and writer. He co-founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) while he was a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1971, he co-founded the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama, and served as its first president. Bond served four terms in the Georgia House of Representatives and six terms in the Georgia State Senate, totaling twenty years in both chambers. He was also the chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) from 1998 to 2010. Bond was a professor of history at the University of Virginia from 1990 to 2012.
