Born and raised in Oakland, California, Cary is the son of an African-American father and a Chinese-American mother. He attended the University of California, Davis where he competed in track and field, specializing in the 800M and 4x400M relays. Prior to his breakout role on Black Summer, Cary worked in theater in Los Angeles and made appearances in various television series. In addition to his acting career, he is also a talented graphic designer and comic book artist.
