Justin S. Kruger is an American social psychologist and professor at New York University Stern School of Business. He received his BS in Psychology from Santa Clara University in 1993 and his PhD in Social Psychology from Cornell University in 1999. Kruger is best known for co-authoring a 1999 study with David Dunning that revealed the Dunning-Kruger effect, a cognitive bias where individuals with low ability in a task tend to overestimate their competence. The study also found that those who performed slightly above average in assessing tasks were the most accurate in self-assessment. Kruger's research has had a significant impact on the field of social psychology.
