Kate Berlant is an American comedian, actress, and writer known for her surrealist and absurdist style of stand-up comedy and improvisational work. Born on July 16, 1987, in Los Angeles, California, Berlant is the daughter of performer Helen Méndez and artist Tony Berlant. With Cuban and Spanish heritage from her mother's side and being of Jewish descent from her father, she brings a diverse background to her performances. Berlant holds a master's degree in performance studies from New York University. She has appeared in various comedy series, including roles in Sorry to Bother You (2018), Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), and Don't Worry Darling (2022). Berlant has showcased her stand-up on The Tonight Show and The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, as well as performed on the Netflix sketch comedy series The Characters in 2016. She has been a regular performer at the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival.
