Katie Porter, born Katherine Moore Porter on January 3, 1974, is an American politician, law professor, and lawyer. Since 2023, she has been serving as the U.S. representative from California's 47th congressional district, having previously represented the 45th congressional district from 2019 to 2023. Porter, a Democrat, holds the distinction of being the first Democrat to be elected to represent the 45th district, which covers south-central Orange County, including Irvine, Tustin, and Lake Forest, as well as portions of Anaheim and Laguna Niguel. With a strong academic background, Porter graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School, and has taught law at various institutions, including the University of California, Irvine, William S. Boyd School of Law, and University of Iowa. She currently serves as the deputy chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and is known for her incisive questioning during congressional hearings. Porter made the decision not to seek reelection to the United States House of Representatives.
