Keith Hernandez (born October 20, 1953) is an American former Major League Baseball first baseman. He played the majority of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets, winning two World Series titles. Hernandez was a five-time All-Star and shared the 1979 NL MVP award. Known for his contact hitting and impressive .296 career average, he also had a walk rate of 12.5%. Defensively, Hernandez received 11 consecutive Gold Glove awards, making him widely considered the best defensive first baseman of all time. He currently works as a color commentator for the Mets on SportsNet New York and as a studio analyst for MLB on Fox.
