Kirk Dewayne Franklin (born January 26, 1970) is an American songwriter, choir director, gospel singer, and rapper. He is best known for leading urban contemporary gospel and Christian R&B ensembles such as The Family, God's Property, and One Nation Crew (1NC) among many others. With a career spanning decades, Franklin has won 19 Grammy Awards and has been recognized as a prominent figure in the urban gospel genre. Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Franklin overcame early hardships and honed his musical talents from a young age. He began playing piano at the age of four and became a music director for a church choir at just 11 years old.
