Kristine Sutherland (born Kristine Young; April 17, 1955) is an American actress known for her role as Joyce Summers, Buffy Summers' mother, on the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She appeared in every season of the show. Sutherland also starred as Mae Thompson in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989). Born in Boise, Idaho, she changed her name to Kristine Sutherland to avoid confusion with another actress. She attended high school in Lexington, Kentucky, where she participated in the Tates Creek Drama program. Sutherland's first film role was as a secretary in 'Legal Eagles' (1986). She has no relation to Donald Sutherland or his family.
