Lance Armstrong, born Lance Edward Armstrong (né Gunderson) on September 18, 1971, is an American former professional road racing cyclist. He gained international recognition for his unprecedented feat of winning the Tour de France a record seven consecutive times from 1999 to 2005. However, his titles were later revoked due to an investigation into doping allegations, known as the Lance Armstrong doping case, which revealed his use of performance-enhancing drugs throughout his career. As a triathlete, Armstrong won the national sprint-course triathlon championship in 1989 and 1990. He turned professional in 1992, joining the Motorola team. Throughout his career, Armstrong achieved notable victories, including the World Championship in 1993, the Clásica de San Sebastián in 1995, and multiple stage victories in the Tour de France. In 1996, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, which significantly impacted his cycling career. Armstrong is currently banned for life from participating in any sanctioned bicycling events.
