Laura Main

Laura Main (born 8 March 1977) is a Scottish actress known for her role as Sister Bernadette and, later, Nurse Shelagh Turner in the BBC One drama series Call the Midwife. Born in Aberdeen, Main's father was a fish merchant and her mother was a primary school teacher turned housewife. She attended Hazlehead Academy and studied history at the University of Aberdeen before starting drama school at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Main began her career in musical theatre, performing in various stage productions. She has appeared on stage and in several television shows, but is best known for her role in Call the Midwife.
