Lauren Klein Biography
Lauren Klein is an American academic and associate professor at Emory University. She is also the director of the Digital Humanities Lab at the university. Klein is known for her expertise in digital humanities and for co-authoring the book 'Data Feminism' with Catherine D'Ignazio. She earned her Ph.D. in English and American Studies from the Graduate Center, CUNY in 2011. Before pursuing her graduate studies, Klein worked as a software developer and bike messenger. She joined the Georgia Institute of Technology as an assistant professor, teaching in the Computational Media program, and founded the Digital Humanities Lab. Klein's research on the Shape of History project shed light on a forgotten data visualization scheme from the nineteenth century created by Elizabeth Palmer Peabody. She has been recognized as one of the rising stars of digital scholarship in 2017.
