Lee David Ross (August 25, 1942 – May 14, 2021) was a Canadian–American professor known for his influential work in social psychology. He held the title of the Stanford Federal Credit Union Professor of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University. Ross's research focused on attributional biases, judgment and decision making, and barriers to conflict resolution. He collaborated extensively with Mark Lepper, and together they studied phenomena like the fundamental attribution error. Ross's work has become standard in textbooks and has even been featured in popular media. Beyond his academic pursuits, Ross actively engaged in conflict resolution and public peace processes, particularly in protracted inter-group conflicts. He was dedicated to understanding the psychological processes that hinder confronting societal challenges.
