Lee Soon-won

Lee Soon-won, also known as Yi Sunwon, is a modern South Korean writer born in 1957. Born in Gangneung, he initially aspired to become a farmer and spent two years devoted to vegetable farming in Gwangwon Province. However, failing health and a desire for further education led him to return to school. He pursued a degree in economics with a special interest in advertising. Yi Sunwon's work focuses on characters who lead lives outside of societal norms and traditional order, exploring the emptiness and meaninglessness of their consumer-driven lifestyles. Through his writing, he pessimistically assesses the values and lifestyle of the new popular consumer society.
