Lena Dunham (born May 13, 1986) is an American writer, director, actress, and producer. She gained recognition as the creator, writer, and star of the HBO television series Girls (2012–2017), earning Emmy Award nominations and two Golden Globe Awards. Dunham made history by becoming the first woman to receive the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing – Comedy Series for her work on Girls. Prior to Girls, she wrote, directed, and starred in the independent film Tiny Furniture (2010), which won her an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay. Dunham's second feature film, Sharp Stick, was released in 2022, and her third film, Catherine Called Birdy, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022 before being released by Amazon Studios. She continues to be an influential figure in the entertainment industry.
