Leon Panetta

Leon Edward Panetta (born June 28, 1938) is an American politician and government official. He has served under several Democratic administrations in various roles. Panetta was a U.S. Representative from California from 1977 to 1993. He served as Director of the Office of Management and Budget from 1993 to 1994 and as White House Chief of Staff from 1994 to 1997 under President Bill Clinton. In 2009, President Barack Obama nominated Panetta for the position of Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. From 2011 to 2013, he served as the Secretary of Defense. Panetta has also cofounded the Panetta Institute for Public Policy and worked as a professor of public policy at Santa Clara University.
