Mark Lavon "Levon" Helm (May 26, 1940 – April 19, 2012) was an American musician and actor. He gained fame as the drummer and one of the lead vocalists for The Band, with whom he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. Helm was known for his soulful voice, instrumental versatility, and unique drumming style, particularly showcased in songs like "The Weight" and "Up on Cripple Creek." In addition to his music career, Helm had success as a film actor, appearing in films such as Coal Miner's Daughter (1980), The Right Stuff (1983), Shooter (2007), and In the Electric Mist (2009).
