Linda Lavin (born October 15, 1937) is an American actress and singer. She gained popularity for her portrayal of the title character in the sitcom Alice and has had a successful career in both stage and screen. Lavin began her acting career as a child and later joined the Compass Players in the late 1950s. She made a name for herself on Broadway with notable performances in productions like It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman and Last of the Red Hot Lovers, earning her first Tony Award nomination. Lavin transitioned to television in 1973, appearing in recurring roles on Barney Miller before landing the lead role on Alice. She has also appeared in numerous telefilms and feature films.
