Lisa Lisa

Lisa Velez, known by her stage name Lisa Lisa, is an American singer who gained fame in the 1980s as part of the band Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Born on January 15, 1967, in Hell's Kitchen, New York City, she grew up in a religious household with nine siblings. Velez, of Puerto Rican descent, learned both Spanish and English and showcased her singing talent in her church choir and a traveling singing group during her school years. After a successful audition, she joined the Brooklyn production team Full Force and formed Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Together, they achieved success with their R&B and dance-pop hits.
