She graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1990. Chakrabarti has appeared in various screen projects, including Vigil, Showtrial, Criminal: UK, and The Casual Vacancy. She also had a role as WPC Jamila Blake in the long-running ITV drama The Bill.
