Loren Taylor

Loren Taylor (born July 1977) is an American politician who served on the Oakland City Council from 2019 to 2023. Representing the 6th district, he focused on the East Oakland neighborhoods of Maxwell Park, Millsmont, Havenscourt, and Eastmont. A Democrat, Taylor ran for the Oakland Mayoral Election in 2022 but narrowly lost by 0.6% to city councilmember Sheng Thao. Born and raised in Oakland, California, Taylor attended The College Preparatory School before obtaining a bachelor's degree in arts from Case Western Reserve University and a master's degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Connecticut. He also holds a master's in business administration from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to his political career, Taylor worked as a biomedical engineer and management consultant for businesses and nonprofit organizations.
