Louis Mahoney Biography
Louis Mahoney (8 September 1938 – 28 June 2020) was a Gambian-born British actor and anti-racist activist. He was known for his advocacy and campaigning for racial equality within the acting profession. Mahoney began his career in the 1960s, working with Colchester Rep and the Mercury Theatre, before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1967. He was one of the first black actors to be part of the company. Mahoney appeared in various films and TV shows, showcasing his talent and versatility as an actor. He also represented African-Asian members on the council of the actors' union, Equity, serving as joint Vice-President from 1994 to 1996.
