Mae Mercer
Mae Mercer (1932–2008) was an American blues singer and actress known for her work in films and television. Born in the Temperance Hall community of Edgecombe County, North Carolina, Mercer spent her early years in the state before moving to Paris in the 1960s. She sang in the Blues Club, owned by Maurice Girodias, for eight years and toured Europe. Upon returning to the United States, Mercer began her acting career in the early 1970s. Some of her notable film appearances include Dirty Harry (1971), The Beguiled (1971), Frogs (1972), Cindy (1978), and Pretty Baby (1978). Mercer was also involved in producing the documentary film Angela Davis: Portrait of a Revolutionary (1972).
