Marc Shaiman Biography
Marc Shaiman (born October 22, 1959) is an American composer and lyricist known for his work in films, television, and theatre. He has collaborated with lyricist and director Scott Wittman and director Rob Reiner on several projects. Shaiman has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a Tony Award. He has been nominated for seven Academy Awards. Shaiman began his career as a writer on Saturday Night Live from 1984 to 1987, and then went on to compose music for several notable films, such as When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Misery (1990), Hairspray (2007), and Mary Poppins Returns (2018). He also composed the music and co-wrote the lyrics for the Broadway musical Hairspray (2003).
