Maria Ramos

Maria Ramos (born 1959) is a South African businesswoman, banker, and corporate executive. She currently serves as the chairperson of AngloGold Ashanti, a position she has held since 2020. Prior to this, Ramos was the CEO of Absa Group Limited and Transnet. She also served as the director-general of the National Treasury. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, on February 22, 1959, Ramos immigrated to Mozambique and then South Africa with her parents. She began her career as a waste clerk for Barclays in Vereeniging, eventually earning a scholarship to complete a university commerce degree. With her extensive experience in the banking and corporate sectors, Ramos has made significant contributions to the South African business landscape.
