Mario Gabriele Andretti is an Italian-born American former racing driver. Born on February 28, 1940, Andretti is one of the most successful drivers in motorsports history. He is one of only three drivers to have won races in Formula One, IndyCar, the World Sportscar Championship, and NASCAR, alongside Dan Gurney and Juan Pablo Montoya. Andretti has also achieved victories in midget car racing and sprint car racing. His impressive career includes winning the Formula One World Championship in 1978, four IndyCar titles, and IROC VI. He is the only driver to have won the Indianapolis 500, Daytona 500, and the Formula One World Championship. Andretti's victory at the 1978 Dutch Grand Prix remains the most recent Formula One win by an American driver. With 109 career wins on major circuits, Andretti has left an indelible mark on the world of racing.
