Mark Kelly Biography
Mark Edward Kelly (born February 21, 1964) is an American politician, former astronaut, and United States Navy captain. He is currently serving as the junior United States senator from Arizona since 2020. As a member of the Democratic Party, he was elected in a special election following the death of Senator John McCain. Kelly has an extensive background in aviation, having flown combat missions during the Gulf War as a naval aviator. He was selected as a NASA Space Shuttle pilot in 1996 and flew multiple space missions, including commanding the final mission of Space Shuttle Endeavour in 2011. Kelly's wife, Gabby Giffords, a former Arizona Congresswoman, survived an assassination attempt in 2011.
