Marla Gibbs, born Margaret Bradley on June 14, 1931, is an American actress, singer, comedian, writer, and television producer. With a career spanning seven decades, Gibbs is best known for her role as Florence Johnston, George Jefferson's maid, in the CBS sitcom The Jeffersons (1975–1985), earning her five nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. She also starred in the spin-off show Checking In (1981) and the NBC sitcom 227 (1985–1990), where she played the lead role of Mary Jenkins, co-produced the series, and sang the theme song. Gibbs has received seven NAACP Image Awards and has appeared in various films and TV shows, including Station 19 (2018) and Grey's Anatomy (2022).
