Martin Sheen, born Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez on August 3, 1940, is an American actor with a career spanning over six decades. He has received numerous accolades, including three Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards. Sheen is most recognized for his portrayal of U.S. President Josiah Bartlet in the NBC series The West Wing (1999–2006). His breakthrough roles came in Terrence Malick's Badlands (1973) and Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now (1979). Sheen has also appeared in notable films such as The Subject Was Roses (1968), Gandhi (1982), Wall Street (1987), and The Departed (2006), among many others. He played Uncle Ben in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and portrayed Robert F. Kennedy in The Missiles of October (1974).
