Masha Gessen

Masha Gessen (Мари́я "Маша" Алекса́ндровна Ге́ссен) is a Russian-American journalist, author, translator, and activist. They have gained recognition for their outspoken criticism of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. Gessen is a nonbinary and trans individual who uses they/them pronouns. They have been a prominent advocate for LGBT rights and are considered Russia's leading LGBT rights activist. Gessen has written extensively on the subject and has been a prolific contributor to various publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, and Vanity Fair. They have authored several non-fiction books and currently reside in New York with their wife and children.
