Matt Gaetz

Matthew Louis Gaetz II (born May 7, 1982) is an American lawyer and politician. He has been serving as the U.S. representative for FL's 1st congressional district since 2017. This district includes Escambia, Okaloosa, and Santa Rosa counties, as well as portions of Walton County. Gaetz is a member of the Republican Party and is known for his far-right political views. He is considered a staunch supporter of former president Donald Trump. Gaetz was raised in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and comes from a family with a history of politics. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016 and gained national attention for his defense of Florida's stand-your-ground law.
