Matthew Cowles Biography
Matthew Cowles (September 28, 1944 – May 22, 2014) was an American actor and playwright. Born in New York City, he was the son of actor and theatre producer Chandler Cowles. In 1966, Cowles portrayed the title character in Edward Albee's Broadway adaptation of James Purdy's novel, Malcolm. He appeared in Israel Horovitz's play, The Indian Wants the Bronx, alongside Al Pacino and John Cazale in 1968. Cowles joined The Mirror Theater Ltd's Mirror Repertory Company in 1983. He made his television debut as Joe Czernak in the series NYPD in 1969. Cowles received Daytime Emmy nominations for his role as Billy Clyde Tuggle in All My Children. His film debut was in Me, Natalie (1969).
