Matthew Daddario is an American actor, born on October 1, 1987, in New York City. He is best known for his role as Alec Lightwood on the Freeform television series Shadowhunters (2016–2019). Daddario is the younger brother of actress Alexandra Daddario. He comes from a family with a background in law enforcement and politics, with his mother being a lawyer and his father being a prosecutor and former head of NYPD Counterterrorism. His paternal grandfather, Emilio Q. Daddario, was a Democratic representative to the United States House of Representatives. Daddario attended the Collegiate School and graduated with a degree in economics from Indiana University Bloomington. He made his major film debut in the romantic drama film Breathe In in 2013.
