Maureen Jane Beattie (born August 14, 1953) is an Irish-born, Scottish actress known for her work on both stage and screen. She was born in Bundoran, County Donegal, but raised in Glasgow, Scotland. Beattie is the daughter of Scottish actor and comedian Johnny Beattie and his wife Kitty Lamont, and she is the eldest of four children. She attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, where she won the James Bridie Gold Medal for Acting. Since then, Beattie has had a successful career in theatre, appearing in numerous roles. She has also made appearances on television, including a role in Emmerdale as Chris Tate's lawyer Laura Johnstone.
