Maxine Peake (born July 14, 1974) is an English actress and narrator. She gained recognition for her roles in popular TV shows such as Twinkle in the sitcom dinnerladies (1998–2000), Veronica Ball in the comedy drama Shameless (2004–2007), Martha Costello in the legal drama Silk (2011–2014), and Grace Middleton in the drama series The Village (2013–2014). Peake also appeared in the Black Mirror episode 'Metalhead' (2017) and portrayed Hamlet. She is known for her critically acclaimed performance as the notorious serial killer Myra Hindley in the ITV dramatization See No Evil: The Moors Murders (2006). Peake was born in Westhoughton, Bolton and grew up with her sister and separated parents.
