MC Lyte

MC Lyte, born Lana Michele Moorer on October 11, 1970, is an American rapper, disc jockey, and entrepreneur. She is recognized as one of the pioneers of female rap and gained fame in the late 1980s. MC Lyte released her debut solo album, 'Lyte as a Rock,' in 1988, making her the first female rapper to do so. The album featured the hit singles '10% Dis' and 'Paper Thin.' She joined the supergroup Stop the Violence Movement in 1989 and collaborated on the number-one single 'Self Destruction.' In 1993, MC Lyte achieved a gold certification with her single 'Ruffneck,' becoming the first solo woman rapper to do so.
