Melissa O'Neil (born July 12, 1988) is a Canadian actress and singer. She gained recognition after winning the third season of Canadian Idol in 2005, becoming the first Canadian female to win the competition. O'Neil is known for her roles as Two/Rebecca/Portia Lin on the Syfy science fiction series Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama series The Rookie. Born in Calgary, Alberta, O'Neil attended Terry Fox Junior High School and later Lester B. Pearson High School, where she participated in musicals, rugby, and basketball. Her powerful vocals and impressive audition earned her a spot in the top 100 of Canadian Idol, despite forgetting the lyrics during the final round.
