Meredith Ann Baxter (born June 21, 1947) is an American actress and producer. She is best known for her roles in popular television shows such as the CBS sitcom Bridget Loves Bernie (1972–1973), ABC drama series Family (1976–1980), and the NBC sitcom Family Ties (1982–1989). Baxter has been nominated for the Emmy Award five times, including a nomination for her role in the 1992 TV film A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story. Born in South Pasadena, California, Baxter was raised by her mother and stepfather, situation comedy writer Allan Manings. She attended Hollywood High School and later studied voice at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.
