Merrill Markoe Biography
Merrill Markoe (born August 13, 1948) is an American author, television writer, and occasional standup comedian. Born in New York City, Markoe attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she obtained a B.A. in Art in 1970 and an M.A. in 1972. Her career began as an art teacher at the University of Southern California. She then transitioned into television writing, joining the team of writers for the revival of Laugh-In in 1977. Markoe also appeared in Mary Tyler Moore's variety show, Mary, in 1978, alongside future boyfriend David Letterman. In 1980, she became the head writer for The David Letterman Show. Throughout her career, Markoe has received recognition, including a Daytime Emmy Award for her work on The David Letterman Show.
