Mervyn Edward Griffin Jr. (July 6, 1925 – August 12, 2007) was an American television show host, media mogul, and actor. He began his career as a radio and big band singer before transitioning to film and Broadway. From 1965 to 1986, Griffin hosted his own popular talk show, The Merv Griffin Show. He achieved further success as the creator of the game shows Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune through his production companies, Merv Griffin Enterprises and Merv Griffin Entertainment. Born in San Mateo, California, Griffin came from an Irish American background and grew up singing in his church choir. He was known for his musical talent as an organist and his ability to entertain audiences through his various television ventures.
