Metta Sandiford-Artest, previously known as Ron Artest and Metta World Peace, is an American former professional basketball player. Born on November 13, 1979, he played college basketball for the St. John's Red Storm before being drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 1999 NBA draft. Over his 19-season career in the NBA, Sandiford-Artest played for multiple teams and established himself as one of the league's top defenders. In 2004, he was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, an NBA All-Star, and earned All-NBA honors. He won an NBA championship in 2010 as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Throughout his career, Sandiford-Artest was involved in several controversial on-court incidents, including the infamous Malice at the Palace. He is also known for his eccentric and outspoken behavior.
