Michael Rubens Bloomberg is an American businessman, politician, philanthropist, and author. Born on February 14, 1942, in Medford, Massachusetts, Bloomberg is the majority owner, co-founder, and CEO of Bloomberg L.P., a financial information, software, and media firm famous for its Bloomberg Terminal. He served as the mayor of New York City for three terms from 2002 to 2013 and was a candidate for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president. Bloomberg is also the chair of the Defense Innovation Board, an independent advisory board for the United States Department of Defense. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Business School and began his career at Salomon Brothers before founding Bloomberg L.P. in 1981.
